More About the Campaign:

  • Realizing that Del Rio was home to many dog lovers, the Del Rio Parks Foundation identified the creation of a community dog park as a primary goal in early 2017. The organization immediately began working with the City of Del Rio to discuss possible locations and funding.
  • Carranza Park, located at 608 Avenue V in Del Rio, was determined to to be the best location due to the large green space already available, central location, and ideal mix of amenities including wilderness trail, mature trees, playground, and existing parking lot. Renderings of the proposed park layout will be made available on the dog park’s website.
  • The park will include a large dog park, small dog park, seating area, ADA walkway and bridge, potential splash pad and a potential dog agility course
  • The mission of the Del Rio Community Dog Park is to create a beautiful outdoor sanctuary that gives back through community events, education and stronger animal welfare programs--like reduced cost spay and neutering, vaccinations, and microchipping.
  • Ten percent of all funds raised during the campaign will go towards the Del Rio Community Dog Park Animal Wellness Program, which includes local partnerships with AARC, Friends of Del Rio Animals, Val Verde Veterinary Hospital, and Del Rio Veterinary Diagnostic Hospital.
  • The Del Rio Community Dog Park will be funded in three phases, kicking off on May 1. The total fundraising goal is $40,000, with sponsorships available at various levels, prizes for the top team fundraisers, and on-site recognition for those donating $100 or more.
  • On May 4th, the Del Rio Parks Foundation will host a Pints for Paws Pop-Up Beer Garden at the Del Rio Community Garden. The event, which is free to attend and will run from 6 p.m. to midnight, will feature live music, food vendors, and draft beer. All proceeds will benefit the Del Rio Community Dog Park.
  • On June 15th, the Bark in the Park fundraiser finale will be held on-site at Carranza Park, to introduce the community to the future dog park grounds, acknowledge top fundraisers, and give the public a chance to participate in fun activities with local pet-related organizations and businesses. Exact event times are TBD.
  • The park’s founding sponsor, Border Federal Credit Union, was established in 1954 and is a not-for-profit financial cooperative servicing over 26,000 member-owners in 13 counties and has more that $150 million is assets.
