The Del Rio Community Dog Park will be a beautiful outdoor sanctuary that gives back through community events, education and stronger animal welfare programs--like reduced cost spay and neutering, vaccinations and microchipping. We believe that a large-scale community dog park will improve the quality of life here in Del Rio--for dogs and humans alike. Because when our pets are healthy, we are!

The Design

Design highlights: Over 200,000 square feet, including a large dog park, a small dog park, seating area, ADA walkway and bridge, potential splash pad, potential dog agility course

The History:

In early 2017 the Del Rio Parks Foundation identified the creation of a community dog park as a primary goal. The organization immediately began working with the City of Del Rio to discuss possible locations and funding. Carranza Park was determined to to be the best option and a community meeting was also held to invite public comment.

Following positive feedback and some helpful suggestions, the Del RIo Parks Foundation began to investigate funding models as well as develop a design and budget. By late 2018 the organization determined a community crowd-funded model was the best place to start, and that sponsorships, grants and city funding would all be pursued as well.
